Benefits of Vitamin E in Skincare
RUVI's Age-Defying Glow Serum antioxidant superfruit Bataua is jam-packed with vitamin E, which is vital for the proper function of many organs in the body, including our skin. Let's talk about what vitamin E is and what makes it a superstar skincare ingredient!
What is Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant (a hint for why it's a magic ingredient in skincare!) There are 8 chemical forms of vitamin E: alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-tocopherol and alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-tocotrienol. Only one form is known to meet the health requirements of humans—tocopherol.
Vitamin E can be found:
- Naturally in our bodies
- Certain foods like sunflower seeds, almonds, peanut butter, spinach, etc.
- Dietary supplements
- Skincare products, including RUVI's Glow Serum
Vitamin E in Skincare
The most common form of Vitamin E in skincare is tocopherol. If you take a look through your skincare shelf, you're bound to find tocopherol listed as an ingredient in one or more of your products!
Vitamin E is the most abundant lipophilic antioxidant found in human skin, and it works to protect our skin's health and appearance by preventing damage caused by free radicals. Over time, vitamin E may become depleted due to environmental and lifestyle factors like UV rays, pollution, smoking, and more. While found naturally in our bodies, we can topically apply vitamin E to give our skin a boost of protection!
Along with protecting our skin from free radicals, we also turn to vitamin E for its moisturizing and healing properties. As a humectant and emollient, it draws moisture to the skin from the environment or the middle layer of the skin to the outer layer. It also helps to seal moisture into the skin while making it feel soft and smooth! If that's not enough, vitamin E plays well with other antioxidants like vitamin C to stabilize and improve their effectiveness. It's a real glow-getter!
